🎉 A Unique Fusion of Korean Tradition and Halloween!

The Tal-loween Concert Party is a special cultural exchange event where Korea and the world come together. This event features a traditional Korean mask dance (Talchum) performance by a professional team, followed by a DJ remix dance party with K-traditional music, K-pop, and Halloween classics. Experience a unique celebration blending traditional and modern elements for an unforgettable night.

🎭 Performance Info: Dance Team & Talchum Introduction

✴ Dance Team '놀이판 마구잽이':

  • Those who major in traditional Korean performing arts often introduce themselves with the term "OO-jaebi," where "jaebi" means "player" or "performer" of a particular instrument. For example, someone who plays the janggu drum would introduce themselves as a "janggu-jaebi," while a person who plays the buk drum would call themselves a "buk-jaebi."
  • Nolipan Magujaebi is a group of emerging artists who don’t limit themselves to any one instrument but instead handle a variety of them with ease. They showcase a fusion of Korean traditional and contemporary art. This unique group charms audiences with a diverse array of performances, including samulnori (traditional percussion quartet), yeonhee-geuk (Korean folk theater), traditional music bands, and talchum (mask dance), which is one of their most distinctive attractions.

✴ Talchum Overview:

  • Seungmu: This dance is a satire on monks who are swayed by worldly desires and fall into the temptations of a courtesan, highlighting the irony of religious figures who are supposed to be spiritual guides for the common people. With humor and poignant movements, Seungmu blends solemnity with social commentary, making it both spiritual and relatable.
  • Mundungbuk Dance: This dance tells the story of a jester afflicted with leprosy, who expresses his pain and despair through dance. As the performance progresses, the jester overcomes his inner turmoil, ultimately embodying hope and resilience. The Mundungbuk Dance conveys a powerful message of healing and overcoming adversity, engaging the audience emotionally.

The Tal-loween Party was created out of a sincere desire to share a piece of Korean culture that is cherished by locals but may be unfamiliar to many international friends living here. While so many enjoy life in Korea, there are aspects like the traditional Hahoe and Gaksital masks that not everyone has had the chance to experience.

For Koreans, Talchum, or mask dance, holds a special place in our memories—it’s not only a joyful, energetic dance but also a nostalgic reminder of our childhoods, something many of us tried at least once. Yet, as modern culture rapidly evolves, space for traditional arts grows smaller, and many Korean traditional music artists lose opportunities to perform.

To address this, we decided to create an event that would:

🇰🇷 Support young Korean artists by providing a stage for their talents, and 🌎 offer our international friends a unique and fun way to engage with Korean traditions.

KOPLE is dedicated to hosting events that bridge cultures, creating social value by giving a platform to Korean artists while introducing Korea’s rich cultural heritage to international friends.

We planned this event with careful attention to safety, limiting attendance not because of lack of interest but to ensure a secure, enjoyable experience for everyone.

KOPLE will continue striving to bring you meaningful, memorable experiences of Korea. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

Warm regards,

Team, KOPLE

As we gather for this event, we also hold a moment of reflection in memory of those impacted by the Korean Itaewon Tragedy on October 29.

Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. May this night bring us together in joy and remembrance.
